News Blog 10,000+ call on politicians to support Bill to ban greyhound racing (31-07-25) In a powerful demonstration of public support, almost 10,500 people have raised their voices to support the Greyhound Racing (Offenses) (Scotland) Bill that would bring an end to greyhound racing in Scotland. Scots have been writing to their MSPs, while supporters outside of Scotland have been applying pressure to the Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity, Jim Fairlie. They have raised concerns about injuries, deaths, incidences of doping, inadequate kennels, overbreeding and the possible long-term impact on the dogs involved. Many have also highlighted the strong support for an end to greyhound racing in Scotland amongst the public and animal welfare experts. Most Scots support an end to greyhound racing Earlier this year, Unbound the Greyhound coalition member GREY2K USA commissioned polling across all eight regions of Scotland, revealing majority support in each region for ending greyhound racing. Overall, 68% of Scots were in favour of an end to the industry. Head here to see the percentage of support in your area What’s wrong with greyhound racing? Greyhounds are widely regarded as affectionate and sensitive couch potatoes by those who have welcomed a rescued greyhound into their families. Sadly, the dog racing industry is rife with welfare issues such as deaths, injuries, inadequate living conditions and doping. It has no place in a modern Scotland. You can read more about the welfare issues in more detail on our campaign page. How can I join the calls? We have made it easy for you to act, providing a pre-written email that can be sent to either the Minister or the Scottish Government in just one click. By taking a few moments to send this email to your MSP, you can help amplify the support within Parliament for the ban. If you are not based in Scotland, send an email to the Minister instead. This is only possible with your help Our significant progress towards securing a ban on greyhound racing in Scotland has only been possible due to your support.
