News Blog MSPs show support for Bill to end greyhound racing 02-05-25 On the 23rd April we gathered outside the Scottish Parliament with our colleagues of the Unbound the Greyhound coalition and Mark Ruskell MSP to welcome the introduction of the Greyhound Racing (Offences) Scotland Bill. This landmark Bill would put an end to greyhound racing in Scotland once and for all. That afternoon, we also had the opportunity to chat to MSPs in Parliament and encourage them to support the Bill. Representatives from the coalition rallied support for the Bill alongside Mark Ruskell MSP and 3 greyhounds rescued from the industry- Sasha, Abby & Katie. We're thrilled that the following 28 MSPs, from across 5 political parties and an Independent, came along to show their support for the Bill: Karen Adam (SNP) Sarah Boyack (Labour) Ariane Burgess (Scottish Greens) Maggie Chapman (Scottish Greens) Claire Haughey (SNP) Pam Duncan-Glancy (Labour) Joe Fitzpatrick (SNP) Kenneth Gibson (SNP) Maurice Golden (Con) Christine Grahame (SNP) Jamie Greene (Liberal Democracts) Ross Greer (Scottish Greens) Emma Harper (SNP) Bill Kidd (SNP) Monica Lennon (Labour) Rona Mackay (SNP) Ben Macpherson (SNP) John Mason (Independent) Gillian Mackay (Scottish Greens) Paul McLennon (SNP) Carol Mochan (Labour) Paul O'Kane (Labour) Emma Roddick (SNP) Colin Smyth (Labour) Collette Stevenson (SNP) Paul Sweeney (Labour) David Torrance (SNP) Evelyn Tweed (SNP) 68% of Scots support an end to greyhound racing Recent polling commissioned by Unbound the Greyhound coalition member GREY2K USA revealed that 68% of Scots support an end to greyhound racing. The polling was also broken down by region, which allowed us to highlight the level of support amongst MSPs’ constituents. This was very impactful. Take action Our supporters have continuously demonstrated the significant public demand for an end to greyhound racing since we launched the Unbound the Greyhound coalition campaign in 2023. And now is our chance to secure an end to this cruel ‘sport’ once and for all. By writing to your MSP or, if you are not based in Scotland, to the First Minister, you can help to push for a ban on greyhound racing in Scotland. The pre-written, though customisable, email action emphasises the organisational, expert and public support for a ban and urges the recipients to support the Greyhound Racing (Offences) (Scotland) Bill.
