Snares are archaic traps that were used across the UK, are now banned in Wales and Scotland but still in use in England and Northern Ireland.

Primarily they are used to protect birds such as grouse and pheasants from foxes, so there is a surplus of these birds for people to shoot for ‘leisure’ and they can cause considerable physical and emotional suffering to the animals trapped in them.

If you have any concerns about the use of traps or snares, anywhere in the UK, you can share them with us on the TrapWatch website.
